From Alan and Tania - North Perth
We just wanted to write a quick note to say thanks again for the fantastic job the guys did on it and tell you how pleased we are with the result.
The fit and finish you achieved with the bamboo on our tricky staircases was excellent and the loft space has been totally transformed for the better.
Being busy at work myself on weekdays, it was really nice to be able to hand over a set of house keys to the guys for the duration of the work and not worry about it. I also appreciated the phone call updates and other helpful touches such as the labels each day showing where it was ‘safe’ to tread.
Bamboo Deck : How to Maintain?
A well constructed deck outdoors beautifies your home and increases its value. It makes a great place to put your BBQ, enjoy the weather with your family, entertain guests, read morning newspapers, or simply relax.
There are a variety of materials you can use for your decking project. Aesthetically pleasing, ecologically-friendly, durable, easy to install and moisture resistant, bamboo decking transforms your yard and adds a new dimension to your exterior décor.
Bamboo is one of the fastest growing grasses on the planet that can grow to approximately 80 feet in 5-7 years. On the other hand, traditional timbers such as Red Oak, White Oak, Maple, Pine and Walnut may take 70-90 years to reach that height. Hence, the use of bamboo wood in the building projects helps reduce the cutting of traditional hardwoods. Bamboo makes a highly renewable natural resource due to its amazing ability to grow on its own. It produces more oxygen than a comparable-sized timber forest and increases the fertility of the land on which it is grown.
Bamboo makes an excellent alternative to composite decking as it has a Janka Scale Rating of 1640, which is above Maple, Pine and Oak and just under Hickory. The scratch resistance of bamboo is very high and its tensile strength even rivals steel.
Stronger, greener and harder than composite decking, a bamboo deck makes an excellent choice to replace an existing deck or install a new deck in your home. Once you have installed the bamboo decking, routine cleaning and regular maintenance should be performed to keep bamboo in a good condition and prolong the life of your deck.
Although bamboo is quite resistant to moisture and attacks of pathogens, harsh environmental conditions can deteriorate its finishing to some extent. Make sure that you clean your decking to remove dirt, grit, leaves, microscopic organisms, fungus, and waterborne and airborne pollutants. Clean the surface with Cuteck ProClean to prepare the deck for re-application of Cutek Extreme.
Bamboo exhibits a very dense woody structure that doesn’t allow coating oils to easily penetrate through it. Cutek Extreme is the only product that deeply penetrates the bamboo structure. It is a wood preservative that makes the most effective treatment to provide unmatched dimensional stability and water repellence, improve resistance against the fungal attacks and replenish ultraviolet protecting oxides. Although Cutek Extreme comes as a clear base treatment, you can mix tint oxide additives with the clear to improve the ultraviolet protection and obtain a range of attractive transparent color tones. It is strongly recommended to use ultraviolet tints in areas of UV and harsh weather exposure. The colours available are Walnut, Burnt Red, Black Ash and Goldtone.
Exterior grade Simply Bamboo decking boards come to you fully pre-coated with 2x coat of Cutek Extreme Clear on all sides. You should apply a third coat after installation especially, if you live in areas that are frequently exposed to UV or rain, which is most of Australia. Before applying the third coat of Cutek Extreme, make sure that bamboo surface is clean and dry. The re-application of wood preservative should be delayed in the event of poor weather.
Re-application followed by a regular cleaning will keep your bamboo deck looking fresh, attractive and beautiful. It is important to remember that bamboo contains lower amounts of tannins and resins than timbers and Cutek is applied as part of the factory treatment to provide similar protective compounds.
Cutek Extreme is manufactured in New Zealand and Australia, and then distributed to stockists worldwide. Be sure not to use any other coating, oil or treatment as a preservative as it does not deeply penetrate the bamboo structure, and will compromise the quality of the bamboo material.
Apart from the benefit of mould and mildew resistance and also water repellence, the application of Cutek Extreme as a preservative throughout the life of the bamboo is also a requirement for warranty of this product.
