Why Using Bamboo Flooring Is So Important
Bamboo is a product that does not diminish our hardwood forests that have taken decades even generations to grow to a maturity old enough to manufacture and produce timber.
By choosing bamboo you not only help preserve natural habitats of the planets endangered wildlife, you are reducing your carbon footprint as bamboo is a giant grass, no natural hardwood has been used in making our bamboo flooring and bamboo furniture for that matter.
There are over 11 thousand species of bamboo, some of which are only suitable for bamboo flooring and bamboo furniture. The particular bamboo we use is called Mao and it is one of hundreds not consumed by the Panda.
The bamboo we choose to use is only harvested from controlled forests and does not disturb the natural surroundings in its growing process.
It is no secret that natural old growth timber forests are being rapidly consumed globally. This not only accelerates the deterioration of our local environments, but also the earth's climate patterns.
Bamboo, the new product for the 2000's, is a naturally beautiful and durable alternative to our limited global supply of hardwood. It is comparable in strength to northern red oak and possesses similar hardness to that of maple, yet is remarkably stable with 50% less contraction and expansion. Bamboo is a grass and like grass it has a short growth cycle of approximately five years, depending on the variety of bamboo. Unlike hardwood with a growth cycle 3 or 4 times longer, bamboo is truly nature's renewable resource. But perhaps most importantly, beyond its durability and abundance, is its beauty! The rich warm tones of the carbonized caramel colour, or the warm natural hues of neutral blond colour, with natures beautiful growth patterns, grains, and growth joints, inherent only in bamboo, make it truly a product that enriches the environment and value of any commercial, residential, or product application.
Ancient cultures of the world have used bamboo in their everyday lives from scaffolding in Asia to musical instruments in South America. For centuries locals have recognised bamboo unique qualities as it has an extensive root system which grows constantly underground and replenishes itself naturally, just like grass.
On the contrary to popular belief, bamboo is still and if not harder than most hardwoods and believe it or not bamboo has a higher tensile strength than steel.
At Simply Bamboo we offer a range of quality prefininshed bamboo flooring at competitive prices.
Our Vertical and Horizontal board is 1850x96x15 and is closely compared to the hardness of Tasmanian Oak, where as our Woven/Compressed board is harder than your traditional Jarrah and Marri.

I strongly agree with you that Bamboo is still considered as a natural resources by which we get very decent looking furniture which is still very durable. Thanks to you for keeping alive the art.
Its true that bamboo makes excellent flooring..and you need to be aware of bugs which might damage these. There are some good tips on boxelder bug control at www.boxelderbugs.net
Since bamboo is a grass and not a tree, it grows much faster than trees. This means as a renewable resource it regenerates faster and therefore produces more product with less resources.
Bamboo flooring is really nice. I saw it on a Japanese tourism commercial on cable TV that just like the bamboo tree, Bamboo flooring is also stain resistant. It's also very flexible which makes it very tough and extremely low maintenance.
Bamboo really does have countless uses and it's the bast choice for your flooring choice on the market today. It's one of the housing materials that is evironmentally friendly and could last several years.
From what I've read the stranded bamboo flooring is the toughest. Bamboo floorings are very well-known in Southeast Asia.
Bamboo floors really are so beautiful. I have seen them used in many home re-designs. Nice post!
Don't you think bamboo will extinct too if everyone uses this material for almost anything?
Hello thanks for your comment, the good thing about the bamboo plant is that it can grow to maturity in only one year, and can get chop down and will grow back again with more bamboo coming from the same clump. With the bamboo flooring it must be over six years old to gain the hardness.
Also did you know that the bamboo tree can produce more oxygen and take in more carbon dioxide than hardwood trees.
Bamboo flooring is amazing. It looks very fancy and beautiful and is very easy to be maintained. It eases the house cleaning process as well. I recommend it to everyone. Instead of putting tile floors, which keep your house cold, you can install a beautiful bamboo flooring.
Thanks for this post, I have been looking into getting new flooring for my home and I hadn't even considered bamboo, but I think now it is definitely an option! I appreciate the tips.

I've been considering buying a bamboo floor. Do you think it lasts longer than laminate and parquet?
What you said is so true, bamboo is considered to be the best flooring around, and not many people seem to know this, and thanks so much for bringing that out. Good post.
I do like bamboo furniture and African style. So of course I like bamboo flooring.
Didn't know bamboo is nature friendly, I like the look of the compressed board.
May be it is silly question, but still.
If the bamboo flooring is economically (price etc) and environmentally friendly, why bamboo flooring is less popularized?
Bamboo flooring as been around for over 15 years now. In countries like USA, Australia bamboo flooring is become more and more popluar each year. The compressed board is the biggest seller now as it is twice as hard as most hardwoods. The vertical and Horizontal style boards where the first bamboo boards to be sold in the market but they are only half as hard as the compressed board so now there is not much call for these boards these days.
I was expecting to see a real bamboo cutted and laid on the floor like on huts. but I was wrong. I've found it more beautiful in here especially the engineered compressed. I thought that was wood.
Bamboo floors are awesome! They are strong, look good and are easy to maintain.
I m totally agree with your points...Bamboo flooring adds very stylish look in our home interior also bamboo flooring is economical...thanx for sharing..:)
